Your Balding Solutions

May 29th, 2010

If you are being bothered by hair loss then this the article you need to read. We have taken reams of data about hair loss and balding and put it in an easy to read post. Don’t be depressed about your hair loss, do something about it today like use one of the methods below.

Although in reality baldness is regularly written in your genes, you may have received the gene from either of your parents. Current medical research has revealed that hair loss causing genes can actually be received from any member of your family unit, and this gene can produce baldness in men, and also women. Hair loss genes can be entirely indiscriminate in coming across which person they can trouble and may possibly also skip generations of a family. They can even come up with very dissimilar consequences on brothers in the very same generation.

Although it is a fact that surgical hair restoration could be your only permanent together with the most successful solution to conquer baldness, there are many hair loss treatments that could help for the battle to eliminate hair-loss. Under most circumstances, surgical hair transplantation will comprise transplanting hairs and roots from one specific area of the head and artfully placing it in another. A lot of patients find that there may be a variety of rewards of hair restoration instead of using vitamins for hair growth.

A few persons, who utilize crash diets that can be lacking nutrients, or maintain seriously bizarre diet habits, may suffer from protein deficiency, which could initiate baldness. The dieter’s body will try to conserve essential proteins by sacrificing hair production. A single vast hair shedding could occur two months afterward. The affected hair may then be pulled out at the follicles quite easily, merely by normal brushing. This worrying condition may be completely reversible and also stopped by consuming an adequate quantity of essential proteins and when you are on a diet, keeping up adequate protein.

Naturopathic practitioners confirm that results from hair systems could be improved upon once certain herbs as in nettle or saw palmetto are added to these options. Although it is a fact that a lot of products for hair shedding are applied to the scalp, these natural herbs treat hair loss from the inside by restricting the creation of specific hormones that are a common cause of the challenge. This twin option treatment is turning out to be a powerful recipe in defeating hair shedding.

What is now the up to date stance on efficient methods to reverse thinning hair? There could be at the present a handful of hair growth products that have been especially formulated for men, and also women; to remedy baldness that have been found to be successful both in blocking the damaging hormones (DHT blocker) and even bringing back to life the vital dead hair roots. These specially made remedies could be made use of both as a baldness prevention product, to start using before thinning hair gets severe, or else after genetic hair loss has become noticeable. As a consequence, however slight the level of hair-loss you are worrying about this type of treatments could be just what could be essential to surmount this common life challenge.

By reducing the creation of specific detrimental hormones, the herb saw palmetto is showing in research to be effectual for the prevention of men’s hair loss. This herb may be able to get some hair back onto masculine heads. A few studies have revealed it to be equally as effective as the current celebrated brand Propecia. This aspect of saw palmetto was revealed by men prescribed this herb for prostate issues who then started experiencing a re-growth of healthy hair on their heads. Hair loss shampoo made with the herb saw palmetto are available to buy from health food stores as well as on the internet. You are able to even find the herb saw palmetto as a natural supplement. The average dosage for a man will be 300 to 500 mg per day. This herb has been proved in research to be completely safe for extended use.

Today, a receding hairline may be a challenge to men, and also women. This may well come as a shock, however hair-loss in the female population is not really as seldom seen as most people might think. The fact of the matter is, that women do experience genetic hair loss, but they may well not know it until later in life. Just as it is for men, genetic hair loss for women can come on very gradually.

Once females have hair-loss, it could be by and large because of a worrying condition well-known as “androgenic alopecia”. A few other triggers of baldness in females include, excessive stress, birth control pills, and hormone imbalance. Despite being distressing, loss of hair due to these initiators will as a rule only remain for up to one year. Soon after giving birth, a woman may well also have loss of hair, and so many women could be very surprised if it happens to them, however they could be comforted by learning that it is not usually permanent.

Nowadays, hair restoration in the United States will cost somewhere between $4,000 to as much as $18,000 varying on the area that is to be treated together with the skill of your surgeon. Additional situations can be suggested, but the fee will remain a one-off outlay and under most circumstances no supplementary fees should be charged for added consultations, and medications. Certain doctors will have a pre-set price, instead of basing it by the number of hairs or follicles transplanted; instead these surgeons charge the fees by the measurement of the transplanted area.

The hair pieces now should be different from your granddad’s hair piece. The hairs are singly inserted into the specially made base rather than knotted. No bumps from knots or slings creates an effect of all the hairs growing out of your own head. These lace hair systems have been made from the 1950s however they could only be within reach of the very wealthy. If you’ve been in the market for hair replacement systems for any time, you’ve probably heard tell of these systems as a style that stars and celebrities for years. However these hair systems have only lately become more commonly obtainable to the typical hair system wearer.

If you are interested in hair implants as a way to deal with your baldness then you need to check out the information we have at the artificial hair implants Blog. It is easier to get hair growing again than you think.

What Products Work Best For DHT Hair Loss?

May 29th, 2010

Each year, millions of individuals are affected by hair thinning and hair loss. It is estimated that fifty percent of men experience hair loss in their lifetime. It is also estimated that over twenty million women suffer from hair thinning and/or hair loss. While the causes of hair loss in women vary, one the major causes of hair loss for both men and women is due to dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone or DHT, serves some good purposes for our bodies. It is one of the hormones primarily responsible for proper bone mass and muscle growth; however, this particular hormone can negatively impact the human scalp.

What is DHT?

DHT or dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that is comprised of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase and the hormone called testosterone. 5 alpha is reductase comprised from cholesterol in our bodies. When the two are blended together, it can produce ‘steroid like’ effects within the body. It regulates the male characteristics of men and helps to level the estrogen levels in both men and women. While men produce greater quantities of testosterone, women also produce testosterone (primarily adrenal glands) but less than half of their male counterpart.

How DHT Affects the Hair

After DHT is formed, it circulates through the body via the bloodstream and makes its way to scalp. Inside the scalp, DHT attaches itself to the follicles of the hair which begins the troublesome process of hair loss. As DHT ‘binds’ to the follicles of the hair, it inhibits oxygen rich nutrients from reaching the scalp.

Human hair typically repeats two cycles: The growth phase (2-6 years) and a resting phase (~3 months). With the presence of dihydrotestosterone in the scalp, the growth phase becomes drastically reduced forcing the hair to enter into the resting phase at a much faster rate.

As these phases are repeated over time, the hair begins to exhibit a thinning appearance due to the lack of nutrients. Hair loss follows soon thereafter as the hair begins to ‘break off’ at the cortex. Hair follicles attempt to regrow; however, the hair becomes so thin and brittle that it cannot reach the surface of the scalp anymore-causing hair loss.

Treatments for DHT Hair Loss

There are several products that can be used to treat hair loss caused by dihydrotestosterone: DHT Shampoo and DHT Blockers.

DHT Shampoo

DHT Shampoo works by penetrating the epidermis layer of the scalp, down into the dermis layer where the hair follicles are located. Specialized botanical extracts work to neutralize the testosterone molecules in the scalp, with the goal of breaking the bond of testosterone and 5 alpha reductase. As the molecules are broken down, other chemical processes of DHT Shampoo help to wash the hormone from the hair.

DHT Blocker

DHT Blockers works as the name implies: it works to block the formation of 5 alpha reductase and testosterone. It also works to decrease the production of 5 alpha reductase, resulting in fewer DHT produced hormones in the bloodstream. Fewer DHT hormones allows the hair follicles a better opportunity for strong and healthy regrowth. One of the best known DHT Blockers is Procerin. Many men have reported favorable and sustainable results using this product.

Although losing your hair may be a painful experience, it may not be impossible to regrow your hair. Keep in mind that time is of the essence. The sooner you begin to notice hair thinning, hair loss and you take action, the better your chances are of rescuing your hair from DHT hair loss.

Hair Loss Treatment

Propecia – This popular hair growth treatment stops hair loss and encourages new hair growth

Millions of men and women suffer from hair loss. It has been noticed that hair loss is more common in men than in women. This loss of hair makes men look older beyond their years; simultaneously, hair loss negatively impacts a man’s self esteem as well as social confidence. Fortunately, there are many options for male hair loss treatment and Propecia is one of them.

Causes of hair loss in men

There are a number of causes of hair loss. Some people may experience dramatic levels of hair loss post a major surgery or after an illness. While the amount of hair loss always appears excessive to oneself, it is really only a reaction to a specific event and usually the lost hair is regained after a period of time.

Similarly, medications may also cause adverse reactions, hair loss being one of them. Some anticoagulants and most of the chemotherapy regimes that are used during cancer treatments are known to cause excessive and sometimes complete hair loss. But, the good thing is that the hair generally grows back once the medication is stopped. Some anti-depressants as well as excessive intake of vitamin A may also result in hair loss.

The more common physical reasons for hair loss include hormonal imbalances, an over or under-active thyroid and certain fungal infections. Moreover, it is understood that hair loss could really be a sign that there is an underlying problem including diabetes or lupus. Given a variety of reasons, it is generally difficult to pin point the exact cause of hair loss; therefore, it is good to seek timely medical advice.

Hair loss treatment

Medically scientists continue to research and test a variety of options that could help to slow down hair loss or actually regrow lost hairs. Presently, we have two prescription medications including Propecia and Rogaine that are popularly used for male hair loss treatment. Both of them have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Propecia, a prescription only medication, works as an effective male hair loss treatment. It helps treat hair loss by lowering the levels of chemicals like dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels in the body that are responsible for reduced hair growth. Propecia is known to effectively control the conversion of hormones that cause hair loss. While Propecia may not help hair loss patients grow back a full head of hair, it does slow down the hair loss.

Side effects of Propecia

Like all prescription medications, Propecia may also cause certain side effects, but most people have no or minor side effects. No common side effects have been reported with Propecia. However, certain severe side effects such as allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, as well as swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); breast enlargement, lumps, pain, or tenderness; nipple discharge; testicular pain, or erectile dysfunction may occur. Seek medical attention right away if any of these allergic reactions occur when using Propecia

How to buy Propecia online?

Though Propecia finasteride is a prescription only hair loss treatment medication, you don’t necessarily have to visit a doctor to buy Propecia. A large number of online clinics offer you the facility to consult a specialist doctor online, free of cost. The consultation is facilitated through an online medical form that requests details about your general health, other health conditions if any and the medications that you may be taking. If your doctor prescribes Propecia to you, your Propecia pills will be delivered to your doorstep in a safe and discreet packaging. Thus, when you buy Propecia online, you save yourself both time and money.

Hair Loss In Women

May 17th, 2010

Our culture has a certain standard of beauty and that definitely includes a woman having hair. There is a reason for women to panic when they find their hair is clogging the shower drain. Hair loss in women can ruin a woman’s self esteem which can result in other psychological problems.

Hair loss is widely accepted as a man’s problem and it is quite common to see bald men. However, hair loss in women is just as common, but it is more devastating for the individual when it does happen. The psychological impact of hair loss in women is much greater because many women see their hair as the main part of their beauty and take great pride in their appearance. However, this problem does not usually result in total hairloss as it does in men.

Here are some causes of hair loss in women which can help you identify the possible cause and decide whether to just wait for the hair to regrow, or if it is a more serious reason, get professional advice and take appropriate action:

#1. Hair loss in women is often connected to pregnancy. Three to six months after delivering a child, many women notice a degree of hair loss as the hair goes into a resting phase because of the physiological impact of the pregnancy on the body.

#2. A woman’s body can also be greatly affected by intensive diets and losing a lot of weight in a short period of time.

#3. Severe illnesses and infections can put great stress on the body thus triggering the hair into a resting phase which result hair shedding. Often the body recovers naturally within 3 to 9 months and the hair begins to regrow until it almost resembles its original condition.

#4. Hair loss in women can be aggravated further by improper use of chemical hair treatments such as dyes, tints, bleaches, straighteners, and permanent waves.

#5. The constant pulling of hair with styles such as ponytails and braids can sometimes cause hair loss in women. Avoid pulling the hair tight with these styles.

#6. Rough combing and brushing of the hair and vigorous rubbing with a towel after shampooing can cause it to break, adding further to the problem of Hair loss in women. Wide toothed combs and brushes with smooth tips are recommended to minimize hair breakage.

#7. The hair follicles are affected by a byproduct of Testosterone named DHT, Dihydro Testosterone. But the protective effects of female hormones like Estrogen and Progesterone in women prevent baldness in women.

#8. Hair loss occurs mostly in women of menopausal age as the production of female hormones drops losing their guard against hair loss. Proper medical treatment can restore the hormonal imbalance.

Nutritional supplements, herbal hair products and sometimes hormone replacement therapy are effective in arresting female hair loss. Zulvera is a natural remedy for female hair loss.Capsules and for hair revitalization also work well in addition to massaging and Aromatherapy.

However, the good news is there are many woman hair loss treatment and prevention system in the market today. These treatments can often be in the form of a guide, herbal treatment or even hair loss center.

Women and Hair Loss

Female Hair Loss

May 17th, 2010

Research shows that up to two thirds of women experience hair loss at some stage in their life and this can often be a very stressful time for women and is an integral part of their self image.

The most common causes of hair loss in women is not related to inherited genes but usually associated with other factors such as pregnancy, stress, chemotherapy, certain diets, thyroid hormone deficiency, some drugs or infections. Unlike men the hair loss in this case is usually temporary and healthy re-growth can occur over time.

Unlike men, women rarely go bald but may experience significant thinning and reduction of the hair shaft diameter around the forehead and crown of the scalp as they age.

If you are one of the millions of women who suffer from hair loss the most important factor is to understand why you are losing your hair before you seek out a remedy or solution.
Causes of hair loss:

1. Genetics: The most common cause of hair loss is rooted in your genes also known as androgenetic alopecia, hereditary hair loss can begin any time after puberty, but usually sets in before the age of forty and may accelerate around the time you reach menopause.

2. Pregnancy: A large amount of oestrogen is produced during pregnancy causing the hair follicles to go into their growth phase. Once the birth is over the hormonal balance is restored and the opposite happens with the hair follicles going into a hair loss phase.

3. Alopecia areata: The reasons for this are relatively unknown but research has shown that the cause is thought to be an auto immune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks the hair follicles. What follows is an inflammation of the follicles and surrounding hair structures. This causes the hair follicles to retreat into the deeper layers of skin shutting off an important nutrient supply, the follicles starve and the hair starts shedding followed by a dormant period.

4. Stress: Another common reason for hair loss in women is stress as known as Telogen Effluvium. What happens is that the growing healthy hairs enter the resting (telogen) phase of hair growth. The hairs matrix appears to stop dividing causing the hair to begin falling out. Women in their 40’s to 60’s will be affected by this kind of hair loss.

5. Drugs or Supplements: The most common drug treatment that causes hair loss is Chemotherapy. This kind of medication attacks the hair cells of the matrix causing 90% hair loss from the scalp. Prescription drugs are also known to thin hair out. These can be Blood thinners, high blood pressure and cholesterol drugs. Some dieting supplements can also be causes of hair loss.

6. Hair pulling: Also known as trichotillomania. Unlike other types or hair loss this is not a medical but more a psychological disorder. There are literally millions of people around the worlds that suffer from this condition. These are mostly adult women that suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, depression or are dissatisfied with their bodies. This condition can be treated with counselling.

Common Causes Of Hair Loss And How To Correct It

May 17th, 2010

Hair loss in men is often referred to as male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia and is caused by the over production of DHT also known as DiHydro Testosteron. DHT is produced by the male hormone testosterone and binds itself to the hair follicles. When produced in excess it disturbs the natural growth pattern of the hair making it difficult to grow hair in the areas affected. In most cases these areas include around the temples, crown and top of the head. The main reason only these areas are commonly affected are because of the increased number of sweat glands in these areas producing the DHT.

Because DHT is thought to be the cause of the majority of male pattern baldness it is believed by many that the most effective way of correcting this problem is to stop or prevent the over production of it making it possible to grow healthy hair again.

The reason more men than women suffer from hair loss issues is because men produce more testosterone than women. While testosterone is a male hormone it is produced by both men and women however it is produced in more quantity in the male body than the female making hair loss an issue when too much is produced.

Although there are many products available that claim to stop and prevent hair loss and even help grow hair back, there are few that are actually effective enough to notice a difference. These products range from all natural supplements to prescription drugs. While the natural supplements can generally be found and purchased almost anywhere the prescription drugs can only be obtained by seeking the advice of a physician and getting a prescription.

While the prescription drugs available to help prevent male baldness are sometimes effective they can contain drugs and chemicals that may cause serious and in some cases dangerous side effects. The other alternative, natural supplements contain only natural ingredients and are generally a combination of many different vitamins that work together to target the problem and make it possible to grow healthy hair again.

Before taking any prescription medication it is advised to speak to a physician about any medications you are currently taking to be sure that they will not interfere with each other. This is important because some hair loss treatments can make necessary medications such as those for blood pressure or heart conditions ineffective. In such cases it may be necessary to seek other alternatives for hair loss treatments.

In nearly all cases of hair loss treatments it will generally take at least six to eight weeks before you notice new hair growth so don’t become discouraged if it takes awhile to see results. This is true whether you choose prescription treatments or natural supplements.

Consider The Possible Causes Of Hair Loss In Women

May 17th, 2010

If you are a woman and have suddenly begun to lose hair for no apparent reason, it is important to make time to consider what might be causing the problem.

We assume that hereditary hair loss is related only to males. But, knowing the hair history of the women in your family might give you some clues as to why you have begun losing hair. Maybe the hair loss itself is not inherited, but perhaps some of the reasons behind it could be.

Did the women in your family experience similar monthly menstrual problems or begin menopause at about the same time? If so, did they have any hair loss during those times? Sometimes, hair loss in women can be attributed to a hormonal imbalance. If you suspect this is the cause, talk about it with your family doctor. He or she can help determine if your suspicions are correct and can prescribe hormonal therapy to help diminish the symptoms. Or, if you are presently taking a hormone replacement therapy or a method of birth control, perhaps your doctor will suggest changing it to see if the medication has been the culprit behind your hair loss.

Allergic reactions might be the source of hair loss in women. Have you changed shampoos or conditioners? Are you using new styling gel or pomade in your hair every day? If so, revert back to the products you were using before making the change. If you notice your loss of hair improving, maybe it was caused by the products or an ingredient in one of them. If you changed your entire hair care regimen and omitting it seemed to improve your loss of hair, you can use the trial and error method to help you determine if only one of the products was responsible for your hair loss. Use the shampoo for a few days. If there are no harsh affects, add the conditioner. If there is still no hair loss, add a styling product. This system can help you week out the particular culprit or will prove that it is the combination of all the products that is responsible for your hair loss.

What about styling utensils? Have you been using a straightener or curling iron forever? Is the hair loss you are experiencing from the roots or are the ends just breaking off? If it is a case of ends breaking off, try omitting heat from your hair care routine for a couple of weeks. If that helps, you have found your problem!

Last, but certainly not least, to consider is stress. Mental stress does horrible things to our bodies. It gives us headaches, chest pains, acne, and yes – even hair loss. If you suspect stress is the problem behind your hair loss, find ways to simplify your life and lighten your load. Often, it’s not that simple. Talk to your family doctor for advice. Try massage therapy, yoga or an exercise class to see if that helps you release your stress. Once you get your stress level under control, your hair will being growing back.

Bald Truth About Causes Of Hair Loss In Men

May 17th, 2010

According to the Medem Medical Library, approximately 25 percent of men begin balding by age 30 and two-thirds by the age of 60. There is a 4 in 7 chance of getting the baldness gene with both parents contributing to their offspring’s likelihood of hair loss although recent large studies conducted in 2005 and 2007 may indicate the maternal side will be a greater contributing factor. So it is strange how little is known on the causes of hair loss in men by the general public.

Common Hair Myths

“It’s because you used to use too much hair gel when you were young!” Aren’t you just sick and tired of hearing this from people who offer it as a pearl of wisdom. Other common misconceptions of the causes of hairloss include washing your hair too often or not enough, combing it too often or not enough and the one your friends will love reminding you of, too much masturbation. Others which have some truth in them include stress, poor diet and sleep patterns, use of anabolic steroids and lack of exercise which have all shown to be contributing factors that effect and increase the rate of hair loss in men predisposed to it.

Other misconceptions surrounding hair loss include it means the man has higher testosterone levels, perhaps propagated by balding men themselves to give their condition a positive spin, however as your about to find out it is not testosterone which is responsible for the hair loss but in fact a derivative of it. So unfortunately a bald head does not prove that you are testosteronally charged sex machine, however you can still tell the ladies that if it helps, lets just hope they are not reading this!

Now the type of baldness we are discussing here is a progressive hair thinning condition called androgenic alopecia or “male pattern baldness” that occurs in adult male humans and other species. Other illnesses and factors can lead to the loss of hair, such as radiation from cancer treatments, but these are not what we are concerned with here.

Dehydrotesterone

The main culprit in causing male pattern baldness has proven to be dehyrdotestosterone – but as what I have found, you’ll have trouble convincing anyone who doesn’t want to hear anything other than what they already know! Dehydrotesterone, commonly referred to as DHT, is a biologically active metabolite of the hormone testosterone, formed primarily in the prostate gland, testes, hair follicles, and adrenal glands by the enzyme 5?-reductase by means of reducing the 4,5 double-bond. It is responsible for the forming of male specific sex characteristics and is 3 times more potent than testosterone and should not be vilified as it performs an important role in the male body. But vilified it so often is because it is the primary contributing factor in male pattern baldness. Ok now pay attention, here comes the science part.

The most important structure of a hair follicle is the dermal papilla, which is responsible for hair growth. The cell of this dermal papilla divides to form new hair follicles and as it is in direct contact with the blood capillaries of the skin it also derives nutrients for hair follicle growth. When DHT reaches the hair follicles and dermal papilla, it prevents proteins, vitamins and minerals from providing the needed nourishment to sustain life in the hair of these follicles. With this, the hair follicles tend to reproduce at a slower rate and this in turn either shortens the growing phase of the hair follicles or lengthens its resting stage.

DHT also causes hair follicles to shrink making them gets smaller and finer. This is known as miniaturization and is what in essence causes the hair to fall off Furthermore DHT tends to create a wax like substance around the hair roots and it is this accumulation of DHT in the hair follicles and roots that gives rise to male and female pattern hair loss. So there you have it DHT is responsible for about 95% of hair loss.

Those who lose more hair are genetically pre-disposed in producing more DHT than others. But just try convincing your friends family that, they’ll tut in disagreement and disapproval and tell you the reason for your hair loss is that you used too much gel, or washed it in hot water and son and on and on. Its enough to make you want to tear your hair out!

How To Find The Perfect Hair Loss Shampoo For You

May 17th, 2010

If you are considering purchasing hair loss shampoo then this article will give you some advice on how to use the shampoo effectively as well as how to pick the right type of shampoo for you. Some small steps that you should keep in mind include remembering that some hair loss is natural so be sure to see your doctor before using any hair loss shampoo, ensuring that you follow the instructions on the shampoo bottle to the word, and performing enough research to find the right product for your hair. If you do follow these steps then you will be well on your way to having a full head of healthy hair once more.

The most important thing to do before you buy and use any of these shampoos is consult your doctor. It is not a smart move to start bombarding your head with hair loss shampoo if you are only experiencing natural amounts of hair loss. Some people become anxious when they see greater than normal amounts of hair in their hairbrush. This might not mean that you are experiencing hair loss, just that your head is performing its natural duties. Most people will lose about 100 to 300 hairs per day. This might look like a lot when it is all clumped in a hair brush, but it is normal. If you have any concerns at all it is always best to consult your doctor for further advice.

For people that are in the market for a hair loss product, then you need to do as much research as you can on the subject before taking any action. Understanding why hair loss occurs and how it occurs will help you to make a much more informed decision when it comes to purchasing a product. There are hundreds if not thousands of companies out there all trying to sell you their product. You need to know what you are looking for and what has the best results with other people. Be aware of the ‘quick fix’ scam that is always around issues like this. Before buying any products, have a look at what other people have said about them. This can be best done by doing a search for the product you are looking for, followed by the word review.

After you have purchased a shampoo product, be sure to exactly follow the instructions on the bottle. Try the product for the recommended time period, if you are having no results, then your best bet is to move onto another one. This way, you can find a product that is perfectly suited to your needs. Also, if you do not follow the instructions, you might have adverse side effects or reduce the effectiveness of the product. Always following the instructions is the best way to go.

Hair Replacement Advice

May 17th, 2010

Hair loss and hair thinning can be very stressful. Some people find it the hardest part of having cancer and its treatment. This is understandable considering that our appearance is closely linked to our feelings of self esteem. Trying to accept sudden changes in your looks that you are not happy with can be very hard. It’s not unusual for people who have lost their hair to feel a bit angry and depressed. You may feel worried about how your friends and family see you. And you may think that you are no longer as physically attractive to your partner.

A certain amount of hair loss is normal – most people lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day, which fall out naturally to be replaced by new growth. However, some people may experience excessive (more than normal) hair loss. Hair loss of this type can affect men, women and children. There are few factors that cause excessive hair loss. Stress, pregnancy and hormonal problems are some of the causes.
Some people accept hair loss as a fact of life but for most others it’s a source of anxiety and depression. It is easy for those with a full head of hair to say it’s vain to want hair but baldness makes one look older and exaggerates existing facial aging. Baldness is the cause of the vast majority of cases of hair loss and can affect you on many levels. It not only changes your appearance but can change your self-image and other’s perception of you. With realistic expectations hair replacement and hair transplant surgery can be life changing.
In order to treat your hair and scalp effectively we would recommend that you have a diagnosis made as soon as possible by one of our experienced trichologists. Close examination of the hair and scalp and a thorough check of your medical history will allow us to diagnose your problem correctly and recommend the correct treatment. Remember that hair replacement surgery can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but the results won’t necessarily match your ideal. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

It’s important to understand that all hair replacement techniques use your existing hair. The goal of surgery is to find the most efficient uses for existing hair.
Surgical hair restoration or replacement is a fairly simple and safe procedure. It is surgery though, so finding a qualified doctor and being aware of the risks, including infection are important to achieving success. Hair replacement surgery involves transplanting plugs of skin from areas of the scalp that still have hair to those that don’t. Several sessions may be required, depending on the size of the bald patch. And it may be a couple of years before the final results can be seen.
Hair replacement candidates must have healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head to serve as donor areas. Donor areas are the places on the head from which grafts and flaps are taken. Other factors, such as hair color, texture and waviness or curliness may also affect the cosmetic result. There are a number of techniques used in hair replacement surgery. Sometimes, two or more techniques are used to achieve the best results.

Hair Loss Causes With Its Treatment

May 17th, 2010

Hair loss usually occurs because of hormonal factors. As a consequence, biological events like puberty, pregnancy and menopause that effect female hormone levels can also cause female hair loss. In the case of pregnancy, hair loss is simply a consequence of the stress the body undergoes during labor and should stop approximately 6 months after birth.

Discontinuation of taking birth control pills can also cause temporary female hair loss.

The cause of female baldness is not just limited to menopause. Some women begin to see their hair thinning as early as puberty. This typically results from a hormonal imbalance. A change in hormones can often lead to female baldness. A hormone evaluation can tell you if hormones are the cause.

What can cause this hormonal imbalance? Most commonly oral contraceptives, PCOS, menopause and pregnancy (post natal stages) can. All of these directly affect the hormone balance within a womans body and can lead to partial or dramatic thinning or loss of hair. Your doctor is the best person to speak to for advice on this especially in relation to PCOS, menopause or oral contraception.

Causes of Hair Loss:

Medication or drugs – the contraceptive pill, blood thinning or blood pressure medication, thyroid hormones, cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, coricosteroids, high dosage vitamin A, amphetamines, cocaine drugs. (Please note that hair loss does not necessarily occur with these medications).

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is an immune disease that affects almost 2% of the population in the US. This type of hair loss appears in various degrees of severity from small, round patches of hair loss that regrow without medical treatment to chronic, extensive hair loss that can involve the loss of all hair on the scalp or body hair. This type of hair loss affects both genders equally and can occur at any age, although it occurs most often in children and young adults.

Physical trauma – scarring, childbirth, burns, accidents, general anaesthesia, surgery.
Some common myths related to female hair loss are that frequent washing and shampooing, and wearing of wigs and hats all cause hair loss. In addition, rumors abound that permanents, coloring, and other cosmetic treatments can cause permanent hair loss. Other myths are that brushing your hair everyday will create healthier hair, that shaving your head will cause hair to grow back thicker, and that stress causes permanent hair loss.

Stress is a major reason why you can experience hair loss. Therefore, start reducing the extra stress at once by taking some time out of your daily schedule to relax. Also get enough sleep. You can also start supplementing your diet with a good hair loss nutritional supplement.
The most important thing to remember is to try to remain positive throughout the treatments. It may take as long as a year to begin seeing results from any form of female hair loss treatment. Start by going to a doctor, and just remember, almost everyone is affected by hair loss at some point in their life.

Rogaine is the only medication approved by the FDA to treat female hair loss. Rogaine is packaged separately for women, in a solution of 2% minoxidil. Many physicians suggest not using Rogaine while pregnant or breastfeeding. Side effects can include scalp irritation and more serious, but rare side effects if too much of the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream. Talk to your doctor before starting any treatment.

Do Only The Elderly Experience Hair Loss

May 17th, 2010

When you look at your grandparents, you might think that it will take you decades and decades to look like them: it may take you years before your bones start aching and becoming weak, it may take a long, long time before your skin starts wrinkling and your body starts feeling it’s falling apart. You may even assume that it will take a long time before your hair starts falling out. However, make no mistake: not only the elderly can experience hair loss: you too can lose your hair early depending on your current state of affairs. In the same manner that you can feel weak and fatigued and old, you can also start looking old.

If you are constantly under stress, you can be sure that your body is going to respond accordingly: you can get stomachaches and headaches more often. You can feel old and worn out and spread out thinly. And you can certainly start experiencing hair loss. It can be as simple as your eyelashes and eyebrows coming loose. It can be as bad as your head losing its full amount of hair. When this starts happening, you may need to start losing the stress! Stress can constrict the thinner blood vessels that provide blood and oxygen to your hair follicles. When this happens, your hair can fall out and your body can weaken.

Some pregnant women also start experiencing hair loss following their pregnancy. This is due to the high levels of estrogen hormones in their bodies before they give birth. Estrogen is a potent hormone that can actually make you grow lots of great hair; lose the estrogen, and you also lose the hair. If you are pregnant, you may lose hair about three months to five months after you give birth. It may take up to a year for you to get your hair back. However, some pregnant women can also experience hair loss during their pregnancy, and this can be alarming and a sign that they are losing or not taking enough vitamins and minerals.

There are also hormonal imbalances that can give rise to hair loss. For instance, women can experience hair loss because they are lacking in certain hormones, or because their reproductive hormones are fluctuating. Both men and women can suffer from hair loss due to fluctuating or imbalanced levels of thyroid hormones, which do not only affect the hair, but the body’s ability to process certain nutrients. Such conditions may require interference by drugs or medicines that can restore the levels of hormones.

Some chemicals and bad habits can lead to hair loss. For instance, some hair treatment chemicals can make hair brittle, so that the mere act of perming your hair or adding color to it can actually push your body to take your hair out. Bad habits with your hair, such as tying it extremely tight or putting stress on it, can also make your follicles weaker and push your hair out faster.

If you are experiencing hair loss, don’t think that you are getting old – and don’t panic! Talk to a doctor or a health care practitioner and ask for advice. You may simply be under a lot of stress, your body may be going through changes, and your hormones may be out of whack. You will simply need therapy to get through it and you just need to know what as you keep a level head.
